Happy New Year from all of us at the VRC! We are certain that 2017 is going to be another outstanding year of expanding our mission and reaching our vision for the blind and visually impaired of Cumberland County.
We had a great December and particularly want to thank Mike’s Farm! We took both our youth and adults to a spectacular light show and dinner. They took special care of us, and we appreciated it. We also want to thank Grandson’s Restaurant in Hope Mills. We had a family Christmas party there and thoroughly enjoyed a lovely lunch with them. It would not have been made possible without an extra special Trust that gave us a nice Christmas gift.
A Note from Our Executive Director:
“We are so excited about 2017. We are starting a lending library thanks to a wonderful donor of audio books for our people. They can come in borrow an audiobook and return when complete. “Outside the VRC Walls” is being made possible with monies obtained by the Elizabeth A. Hudspeth Endowment Fund of Cumberland Community Foundation, Inc. Our Center will go into the homes of those visually impaired and blind that need assistance navigating through with their level of blindness. Most have not been born blind, so to have a drastic change in vision, normal day-to-day things began to change for them. We will find out their goals and help them to achieve them. Many extra SPECIAL thanks to the endowment we were awarded $10,000 for our Health and Wellness Program for our adults.
More exercise, more overnight trips, technology and more learning coming our way in 2017. We thank all of our supporters for our continued growth..A huge thanks to Cape Fear Eye Associates for partnering with us for monthly maintenance payments on our Cape Fear Eye van.

Cory Worrell has been a youth volunteer program manager for over 5 years. Cory plans exciting and stimulating trips for our blind or visually impaired youth ages 6-19. We also add youth volunteers, that graduated from the youth program to help out with our younger ones. Cory and her entire family are dedicated to our mission and give their all to ensure each activity affords our youth expressing their independence and creativity. The VRC appreciates all Cory does for our Center. We could not do it without her.
