“April showers bring May flowers…” And do we have a beautiful May planned for you here at VRC!
We have some great events we will be attending this month. We can’t wait to spend time at the Cape Fear Botanical Garden for Sweet Tea and Shakespeare on May 4th. We look forward to a lovely spring evening to remember that night. And we also look forward to our United Way Days of Caring on the afternoon of May 12th there as well, where we’ll learn about Therapeutic Horticulture, and have the help of some wonderful volunteers from various business in our community. We are thrilled to get so much enrichment outside while enjoying the beautiful space!
During all of this, we are still working hard to plan and execute our 2nd Annual “Out of Sight Wing Fling”. Volunteers are NEEDED! WE know YOU would be GREAT!!!
We need help to pull off this event as well as regular volunteers for our monthly outings. We invite you to join us and find out just how fulfilling and FUN it is to be a part of this great organization!
All you need to do is complete the form attached to this link.
2nd Annual “Out of Sight” Wing Fling on June 24th Hosted by Mountainaire Farms, Array Magazine, and the VRC
Where: Festival Park, Downtown Fayetteville
Time: 3-8 pm
Cost: $5.00 admission and $10.00 sampling card to be a judge for the People’s Choice winner
(sample of 10 wings)
Please help us spread the word about what this great event is about! Simply put, it’s a Chicken Wing Cook-off in a family-friendly setting. Our competitor’s “job” is to create the best wings they can bring to the judges’ table and for the community to judge. Two $500 cash prizes will be given: Best Wings per the judges and the People’s Choice Best Wings. So there are two opportunities to WIN! Those that purchase a sampling ticket will get to judge all of the competitor’s wings as they enjoy the rest of the event with vendors, live music, EyeQ Zone, Kid Zone food trucks, and best of all, you will help the visually impaired and blind community in our county.

MORE HUGS and THANKS to the Fayetteville Dogwood Festival for allowing non-profits to advocate for their organizations by working the information booth and selling sodas and waters spreading the word about the VRC.
The Wing Fling is quickly approaching…. We are SOOO excited… Guy Unger will be there… LeJuane Bowens, Spoken Word artist and CEO, Poetry-In-Motion, LLC, and VRC’s very own DJ “Q”; seafood, Healthy Kabobs, Hawaiian style shaved ice, burgers, smoothies…just a full array of foods to tempt your pallet. Let’s not forget for $10.00 you get to sample and judge BEST WING; there will be (10) competitors for you to try!!! All in support of the blind and visually impaired in our community. The first 1000 people in the gate will only get the chance to judge. Mountaire Farms has provided 1,000 wings to each competitor so get there early!!! We thank our judges Judge Tiffany Whitfield, Sheriff Ennis Wright, Array, and Cape Beard for judging this year’s Judge’s BEST Wing competition.
You can also get a $40.00 VIP ticket, easy access to the restroom, tables, chairs, drink tickets and some yummy snacks and treats, just a little something to make your time even more pleasurable. We will have something for everybody. BEST of all, monies raised will go to help the blind or visually impaired received to aid in independent living skills programming. It is so easy for us to put on our clothes for the day, walk across the street, clean our kitchen and make up our beds, but try it with your eyes closed…… That’s what independent living skill are about, teaching skills to make life a little easier for someone has no vision to complete those daily tasks we handle so easily!!!
