Do you know what J-U-L-Y spells to all of us at the VRC? Summer Camp, of course! We are so excited to get this year’s summer camp started! In addition to having 2 full weeks of fun activities for our youth, we also have Orientation Mobility Specialists coming to provide educational sessions. And we aren’t leaving our adults out either! They’re heading to Camp Dogwood, thanks to the Massey Hill Lion’s Club at the end of the month through the beginning of August. July is a busy time, but a time we look forward to every year!
We can’t say “Thank You!” enough, but we’ll still try!
A huge thank you to everyone who came out to our 2nd Annual “Out of Sight” Wing Fling on June 24th. The weather didn’t want to cooperate, but it didn’t stop our wing contest! Congratulations to the winners: Judges Choice- Mother Cluckers and People’s Choice Pack Eyes BBQ. Thank you also to our generous sponsors who made the event possible. And we couldn’t have done any of it without our volunteers or the support of this community. We are so grateful for all of you!
The Massey Hill Lion’s Club is sending our adults to Camp Dogwood July 30 through August 5th. We are so thankful for their continued support. Our crew could not go to camp without them!
Another huge thanks to Cape Fear Eye Associates for providing us this wonderful van (2) years ago and maintenance funding to go along with it. Both vans were in need of AC repair which is very costly. Thanks to CF Eye we had one van covered. It is so greatly appreciated. Both vans are on the road and our participants are as cool as they can be.
SUMMER camp THANKS go to Cumberland Community Foundation, Inc., Youth Growth Stock Trust and a very friendly Trust in Fayetteville, to ensure our kids have a safe and fun summer camp for kids with visual impairment. Our schedule includes the botanical gardens, Camp Rockfish, Greg’s Downtown, NC Museum of Art, Airborne Museum, Transportation Museum, Drumming, Beach trip etc….We are looking forward to a wonderful time.
We need YOU! We need volunteers for summer camps and outings this summer. Please consider joining our team. It’s fun, easy, and you will change lives by helping our blind and visually impaired. If you have questions, please call us at (910) 483-2719 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
A Note from Our Executive Director, Terri Thomas:
THANKS, THANKS, THANKS…..!!!!
What can we say, the Lord said let it rain! The 2017 Out of Sight Wing Fling wouldn’t hold off the rain, but we had some loyal attendees, entertainment, vendors, and competitors. Fun was had by all that attended. The competition was stiff but the Mother Cluckers and Pack Eyes BBQ Teams “weathered” it all!! Talk about some AMAZING competitors, I know the judges’ jobs were so hard. Our Judges, Judge Tiffany Whitfield, Anne Marie Ziegler: Array Magazine, Joey Newcomb: Cape Beard, Michael Petti: County Sheriff Dept, and Joseph Parisi: City Police Dept. The BIGGEST thanks comes to our motivational, funny and positive MC, Commissioner Glenn Adams. He ROCKED!!
We COULD NOT have done this 2017 Wing Fling without our sponsors, Mountaire Farms, Array Magazine, Systel, The Walker Florez Consulting Group, Saam’s Party Tents, Alysa Buchanan Graphic and Web Design, Ramon Yarborough, UPS Fay. and Ft. Bragg, Margaret & Gordon Dixon, Duck Donuts, Up & Coming Weekly, Dr. Poulos, Fay. Gastroenterology Associates, Crossfit 910, Better Vision, Olive Garden, Arrow Pest Control, Taste of West Africa, First Bank, Cape Fear Restoration, Copiers Plus, Breece Funeral Home, G&E Golf Carts, Metter Ann Montoya, Wade Hardin Plumbing, Wiseman Mortuary, Jennifer Cooney Attorney at Law, Ferncreek Primary Care, Rick and Carol Foster, Drs. Sharon and Mark Kendrick, Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, PWC, Nellie Jo & Nathan Smith, and Phil and Patty Nusbaum. Thanks to you all from the bottom of our hearts.
